[2024]

Composer Note:

"Tranquillo in D" is a single-movement composition that combines progressive metal rhythms with the melodic and timbral richness of the saxophone, traditional Thai percussion, and vocal elements. Characterized by a slow to medium tempo, the piece expresses the intensity and complexity of progressive metal rhythms against the serene melodies of the saxophone. The saxophone showcases extended techniques such as altissimo, multiphonics, and glissando, creating a dramatic and expressive range. Traditional Thai percussion instruments add unique textures and cultural depth, while Thai traditional singing, enhanced with electronic effects, weaves through the composition.

The music narrates the story of Haru, a rabbit who embarks on a journey to explore a mystical and tranquil place called "D." The introduction features a gentle saxophone line and gradually incorporates rhythm sections and traditional Thai percussion, setting a calm yet intriguing atmosphere. As the tempo increases slightly, progressive metal rhythms and intricate saxophone techniques depict Haru's discoveries. The climax blends heavy rhythmic patterns with a complex saxophone solo, symbolizing Haru's intense experiences. The piece resolves by returning to a tranquil state, representing Haru's peaceful existence in "D." Through the interplay of diverse musical elements, "Tranquillo in D" tells a compelling story of exploration and serenity.
